Every month or so we have new hostel open in Krakow. Some are very friendly some have curfew and poor facilities. You will be aproached at the train station by at least 2-3 of their representatives offering you nice room in the center of Krakow. In the summer (July-September) student dormitories are converted to hostels so you can easily get good deal. In May or June it may be more difficult so we advise to book in advance - ask your friends where they stayed or try LonelyPlanet.com message board. It works and you will certainly get some response from Krakow hostels or owners of tourist apartments.
